| Short description |
|
Caritas
Switzerland is working since 2004 in the field of natural disaster risk
reduction in Tajikistan The second phase of the project Natural
Disaster Risk management (NDRM) focuses on prevention and concentrates
on strengthening local institutional disaster risk management capacity,
including projects in preparedness, small-scale mitigation and
prevention. In the field of prevention the project addresses the high
pressure on the watershed’s natural resources, mainly through
overgrazing and deforestation. Deforestation is caused by the
population’s energy needs (cooking, heating) and the lack of
alternatives (power shortages in winter, price of fossil fuels).
Therefore, the NDRM project has started to implement activities in the
field of agroforestry and will launch pilot projects in the field of
energy (energy saving and alternative energy sources) that are
accompanied by awareness building and trainings for local population
and authorities. |
