PLEASE NOTE: WITHOUT A PASSING SCORE (45) ON THE TEST OF SPOKEN ENGLISH (TSE) , YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.

Dear Prospective Applicant:

We are pleased that you are interested in graduate study in Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCLA. Please read all of the information below very carefully !!!

The application deadline is January 15 . Admissions are limited to the FALL QUARTER.

Along with a UCLA Graduate Admissions application , you must also submit a departmental application for our department. If you have questions about the application process please contact Graduate Office . the Dept. of Chemistry & Biochemistry

GRE General Test scores are required; GRE Subject Test scores are also REQUIRED for international applicants. Acceptable GRE Subject Exams include Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology and Physics.  Due to possible delays in transmittal of test results, we would suggest that these tests be taken as early as possible (i.e. in October). A photocopy or self-reported scores will suffice until the official score report is received in our office.

Application Fee for International Applicants is currently $80.  There are NO fee waivers.

REQUIRED TESTS

GRE (General AND Subject tests)

TOEFL - Minimum score of 600 (250 on the computer-based test) is required.

TSE (Test of Spoken English) - Minimum score of 45 is required.   PLEASE NOTE

THAT IF YOU SCORE A 45, YOU WILL STILL BE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE UCLA LANGUAGE
EXAM ONCE YOU ARRIVE IN THE UNITED STATES IF YOU ARE ADMITTED.

***A Bachelors Degree or a Masters Degree from a United States institution or two FULL years of instruction in the United States AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION will exempt you from both the TOEFL and TSE exams.

If you are applying to UCLA as a graduate student for the first time, or if you have applied before but were not admitted, complete all parts of the application . The $60.00 (for U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents) or $80.00 (for all other applicants) application fee must be submitted either on line by credit card, or, if necessary, by check or money order, before the application can be processed.
