Summary: Online annotation of the artist open studio event in the neighborhood of Pilsen in Chicago.Art-Pilsen.org & Polvo

Summary: Miguel of Polvo Art Gallery has a good guide to Pilsen art activities and a blog.
Derek Erdman gallery pictures & write-up

Summary: Pictures of his now closed gallery (he moved to California) with a funny write-up. The one time we met this guy, we were walking to the skylarks, when he shouts down, "hey, do you guys like chicken?" We stopped in, and there were lots of young people, which made us feel old, but there were big tins of fried chicken. Moskow ate some but I let civility get in the way of my joy & abstained.

Summary: Trawling for art walk info, I came across Artscope.net and thought could they be more couch art? Then I remembered Art Letter, Paul "art pioneer" Klein's semiregular homage to beige and teacup preciousness.

Summary: "This three-day event marks the 35th annual East Pilsen Art Walk, one of the kick-off events for Chicago Artists' Month. More than 100 local and visiting artists open their studios, galleries and lofts in this area just south of downtown, along South Halsted from 17th Street to Canalport Avenue and along 18th Street from Peoria to Jefferson. Dubbed as Chicago's oldest art community, this is still the bohemia of the city, where artists live in their studios and create galleries on limited resources, most often without the luxuries of price sheets, installation crews or even "proper" frames or presentation devices. There is much to be seen: paintings, sculpture, paper arts, artists' books, fashion and textiles, screen-printed ceramics, Haitian Voodoo art, fiber installations, wood constructions and folk art. The Visitor Information Center at Halsted and 18th will distribute walking maps of the area. Some not-to-be-missed destinations include Dubhe Carreno Gallery, Sally Ko Studio, 4Art Inc. and Vespine Gallery."
Note the emphasis on galleries, despite the fairly unique "open studio" aspect of the art walk.
Larry Roberts Studio

Summary: One of my favorite Pilsen artists, Larry Roberts. This painting is titled Bring Me the Head of John the Baptist.
Between guest artists and his own work, Larry's studio stages the consistently best exhibits in Pilsen.

Summary: Pretty good write-up on Pilsen stuffs, though I'm always bewildered when food reviewers give Skylark's food a rating higher than "ew".
4Art Inc

Summary: Robin does a good job of showcasing a variety of artists.
Pictured is a sculpture by old skool Pilsenite, Kenneth Morrison.
