IM Rich with Media Potential (July 27, 2006)

IM Rich with Media Potential (July 27, 2006)

Summary: A plug-in for Yahoo's instant messenger demonstrates how graphics can enliven the messaging experience. Jeteye's plug-in for Yahoo! Messenger with Voice is a utility for collecting and displaying content from within the IM environment. Images, video text can be dragged into an IM client and then shared with other users without the need for transferring files. This customization shows the potential for advertisers to co-brand IM clients or even distribute content. AOL has been serving up rich media ads through its IM client for several years, and we can expect competitors to push the envelope even more. I'm guessing it won't be long before small ads are prevalent within chat screen windows too.

Jeteye News Report

Jeteye News Report

Summary: As most of you know, Jeteye has been working hard and the results are here. The hottest items are : * Plug-ins for Yahoo! Messenger 8.0 * Contact List Plug-in This plug-in appears right below your contact list and let's you create Jeteye Jetpaks right from Yahoo! Messenger. * Conversation Plug-in Now you can collaborate on Jetpaks in real-time with your Yahoo! Messenger contact list. And some improvements to their extension were made : * 'Remember Me' now works on OS X * There is now a preference to make your new Jetpaks private or public. * The extension uses the modification date instead of the creation date for sorting. * You can now operate the extension across multiple windows and it inherits the state of the last window. * Auto-titling Jetpaks - instead of popping up a window asking for a Jetpak title, there is a preference which will automatically title a Jetpak with the current date and time. Of course you can always change the title whenever you want. * Our logo in the status bar has been reduced to our logo mark, so there is more room for the other extensions that use this space. Jeteye is moving fast and so is this world. These new developments will keep them on pole position. Personally, I am glad I finally get remembered on MacOSX......

Exclusive interview with David Hayden, CEO of Jeteye

Summary: "This week we called up David Hayden, CEO of Jeteye. We talked to him about the social bookmarking arena, who the real competitors are, how Jeteye can come out ahead, why Jetpacks will not make you fly, and what Yahoo! messenger has to do with Jeteye. We also got a little hint that their may be some teamwork between Flickr and Jeteye in the near future–our assumption. Will they be purchased by Yahoo, listen in!"

Yahoo! Opens API to developers (June, 26, 2006)

Yahoo! Opens API to developers (June, 26, 2006)

Summary: Yahoo! has 60 million users, making it one of the top three IM companies. Together with the release of their Messenger 8.0 for Windows, Yahoo released a development kit to allow third parties to create content plugins for Yahoo IM. A good example is the release of Jeteye for Yahoo! Messenger, where Jeteye has become a plugin for the popular IM client. Created plugins can be viewed here : Gallery. Plugins can be submitted to the Yahoo! Developers Network where they will be published. I think this is a real Web2.0 development where companies are allowed to interact with Yahoo! and add functionality to software that they need. Until now, you could not do much more than stick to features that come with the software.

Summary: David Hayden, co-founder of Magellan, talks about with SEL about his vision for the future of social search and his new project, JetEye. So in a word, social search will be mainstream, because it represents the pursuit of knowledge over information, and the pursuit of knowledge must be a mainstream activity.

Jeteye's David Hayden Talks on Magellan Days and His Vision for Social Search (July 13, 2006)

Summary: His new operation, JetEye, falls into the significant and important emerging social search space with the likes of PreFound and to some extent Yahoo's delicious. These are the companies seeking to enable users to determine their own relevance, though it certainly remains to be shown if there are truly mainstream applications for social search data - and the biggest social player, MySpace, has yet to pick a search direction.

CNET Reviews: Best Firefox Plug-ins for Work (June 7, 2006)

Summary: “Dozens of social bookmarking tools are available. Some of the best are from small start-ups, such as Jeteye. This is a rich tool with some pretty fancy capabilities, but I just use it to save pages and pictures. If you want all your saved links to be public, a simple bookmarklet (a button you add to your browser's favorites bar) can interface directly into Del.icio.us.”

These services enable people to make topic lists, so searching these services for your topic term, will give you a ready made researched list, the idea is the work has already been done for you, so why waste time collating sites yourself."

Sure enough, shortly after hearing that comment, I received an email reminder from Jeteye's PR that I really should take time to compare Jeteye with Google's new "product." I plan to do so, in fact have been planning to do so since founder David Hayden was good enough to talk with me months ago! "
