5 May 2006
It's been a couple weeks since our update to Jeteye.com as well as the Firefox client and I wanted to update our users on what's new and different at Jeteye.
What's new?
New extension
Keep an eye out for an update to our Firefox extension. The major feature in this release is that by default your new Jetpaks will be "Public" (viewable by the world) instead of "Private". This status is also indicated near the top of the page when you view it on jeteye.com.
Quick Registration
So you've shared a private Jetpak with a friend who hasn't yet signed up for Jeteye and now they have to signup before they can see the Jetpak. Well, we think we have an easier solution for this one. Introducing the quick registration system. Since your friend has followed the link in the email we have already verified their email, so all they have to do is choose and alias and a password and one click later they are viewing your Jetpak!
State Prejudice
Some intrepid users pointed out that somehow we missed some US states on our settings page. That was a big whoops for us, but rest assured those of you from Connecticut and New Jersey (among others) can now alter your settings without feeling left out. We also added Canadian provinces to the list for our northern neighbors.
Remix to Win contest
We have a new contest running through June 29, 2006 with prizes from iTunes, Cinema Now, Netflix and Best Buy. To enter simply create Jetpaks on any topic you choose. Winners will be chosen each week. A grand prize of one X-Box 360 will be given away at the end of the contest. For more information see the contest page .
Jetpaks we like
Each week we will feature recent Jetpaks that we think demonstrate the power and flexibility of the system.
This week's choices cover the artist Gnarls Barkley and the new film United 93.
Tips and tricks
You can embed video into a Jetpak. Many of the online video sites (youtube.com, revver.com, vsocial.com, etc.) provide a small amount of code to embed video into a website. Highlight this code and just drag and drop it into your Jetpak. Voila. You are in business.
Spread the word
It's exciting to see the different items from around the Web that our users are storing in Jetpaks. I'm discovering sites that I previously didn't know about and are really very interesting. There are estimates of over 12 billion web pages out there right now, and relying on search engines, our blog rolls and the major news sources is a limiting not expansive trend. Jetpaks, by relating seemingly disparate links under one topic have the innate ability to expand our horizons by leading our surfing to a site that we may not have otherwise found. This is really the best part. So keep on making Jetpaks - and tell your friends about it. It's pretty easy to see that this is way better than bookmarking.
Meet the Jeteye team
We will be at the Giants game in San Francisco on Monday May 8th watching our home team play the Houston Astros. If you're going to the game and would like to meet the Jeteye team, just reply to this email and we'll get you sorted out.
Feedback
We would love to hear what you like and don't like about Jeteye and what you would like to see in the future. Drop us a note using the contact form .
