Camp in boston instead of a hotel?  Not sure about that but maybe it would be a good way to save! And lots of fun because I love camping!

This was the cheapest way to get to Martha's Vineyard, drive to Falmouth then take the ferry from there...gotta wake up really really early in the morning though, traffic can be bad to get to Cape Cod.  It's so worth it though.

We went to Newton to canoe on the Charles River and it was beautiful there.  More conveniet because it's open every day too.  But it might be nice to try the Boston one and see the difference, something to think about.
